1960 - 1969

Fall 1960

Plans are made for new library building – architects Thomas, Ross, and Stanfill from Jackson design the Luther L. Gobbel library building – a Treasure Room is built in the basement - donations are received over the next two years to help cover expenses.

November 20, 1961

Mrs. Mary Lambuth Burch, daughter of Bishop Lambuth, donates furniture that was acquired by the Bishop in the 1800s while serving as missionary.

February 3, 1962

Dedication of the new library as the Luther L. Gobbel Library at the Homecoming Convocation.

Fall 1963

John D. Batsel is the new head librarian, Ms. Clement and Ms. Marr are assistant librarians – Lambuth Alumni’s community campaign “Books for Lambuth” begins to add to the library collection – the first microfilm machine is purchased with Memphis Conference funds.

1964

Miss Clement is acting head librarian.

1965

Carrie L. West is the library director; Judy Hazlewood joins library staff.

1966

Velma M. Hule is the new director; Margaret Fuller joins the staff.

1968

A government documents depository is added under the supervision of Ms. Clement.
