1884 - 1924

1884-1897 

A dome, two towers, a gymnasium, and a chapel are added to the original MCFI building.

Early 1900s 

Male students enroll in the Preparatory Department of the MCFI.

1911 

The Memphis Conference appoints a Board of Trustees to take control of the MCFI operations.

1912 

The Memphis Conference plans to turn the MCFI into an accredited women’s college.

1919 

The Memphis Conference passes a motion to sell the old MCFI property and erect a new building on a new 20 acres site near Campbell Street Church, the Enloe property, to build a grade-A women’s college; the city of Jackson is interested and invested in the plans to build the new college.

1920-1924 

The MCFI closes; it will reopen as Lambuth College.
