"I walk the corner to the rubble that used to be a library
Line up to the mind cemetery now
What we don't know keeps the contracts alive and movin'
They don't gotta burn the books they just remove 'em"

The Bluest Eye and Sula
by
Rosetta James; Louisa S. Nye
Ms. Morrison's first book, The Bluest Eye, tells the painful story of a 1940s black woman who obsesses over her desire to become white. Her futile longing for the bluest eyes eventually drives her mad, as she accepts someone else's definition of beauty and loses herself in a hopeless struggle. Sula concerns the growth and destruction of a friendship between two black girls from a poor town.

A Wrinkle In Time
by
L'Engle, Madeleine
Meg Murry and her friends become involved with unearthly strangers and a search for Meg's father, who has disappeared while engaged in secret work for the government. It was a dark and stormy night Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger. "Wild nights are my glory," the unearthly stranger told them. "I just got caught in a downdraft and blown off course. Let me sit down for a moment, and then I'll be on my way. Speaking of ways, by the way, there is such a thing as a tesseract." A tesseract (in case the reader doesn't know) is a wrinkle in time. To tell more would rob the reader of the enjoyment of Miss L'Engle's unusual book.
The picture of Dorian Gray
by
Wilde, Oscar
Dorian Gray's portrait is painted by artist Basil Hallward, who becomes strongly infatuated with him. Dorian meets Lord Henry Wotton, who believes that the only thing worth pursuing in life is beauty, and the fulfilment of the senses. Realizing that his youth and beauty will fade, Dorian makes a wish that the Basil's portrait of Dorian will age rather than himself. Dorian's wish is fulfilled, subsequently plunging him into a series of debauched acts. The portrait serves as a reminder of the effect each act has upon his soul, with each sin being displayed as a disfigurement of his form, or through a sign of aging.
Did you know that 164 songs were banned from the radio right after 9/11 mostly for being critical of America, deemed insensitive or anti-American, or, in the case of John Lennon's "Imagine", it didn't fit with the call to war at the time. This also included every single song by Rage Against the Machine, who was always very critical of America. See article below for full list of songs.

Did you know that the ALA (American Library Association) reported in March 2022 that its' Office for intellectual Freedom had received 729 challenges to library, school, and university materials in 2021. There were only 156 in 2019. The number of individual books challenged in 2021 totaled 1,597 as some challenges reported contained more than one book. The ALA says approximately 90% of challenged books go unreported and the ALA cannot track "silent censorship" (when individuals hide, throw away, or just take books off shelves).
