There is more going on in McWherter than just books and articles. the sandbox., McWherter Library's creatorspace, has tons of technology to reserve and check out. The Special Collections Department has rare books, archival materials, and lots of great collections full of historical resources. If your professor has put something "On Reserve at the Library," that means it is either a physical item that you can access by asking for it at the Check Out Desk in McWherter Library, or it is a digital file that you can access on the Course Reserves website.
McWherter Library's creatorspace, the sandbox., is your one-stop shop for recording and editing video and audio projects. There are lots of other technologies available as well, ranging from a Cricut to video games to digital art tablets. All of these spaces are free for students to use.
