Zoom H4n Recorder

Students at the University of Memphis are can check out a Zoom H4n portable audio recorder from the circulation desk in the Music Library, pursuant to the following guidelines:

1. One recorder per student. (There are two available.)
2. Check out for three days ($5.00/day late fee).
3. There are no renewals. You can check it out again after 24 hours.
4. Make sure you follow the instructions for usage and refer to this guide.
5. Be sure to save your recordings to your computer or use your own memory card. The Libraries are not responsible for any content left on the provided memory card upon check-in.

With the Zoom H4n Handy Recorder, you can turn your world into a world-class recording studio! It can run for up to 11 hours on two AA batteries for outdoor recordings.

Custom designed, onboard X/Y stereo condenser mics allow variable recording patterns at either 90° or 120°. The unique design lets the user rotate each mic capsule from 90° (standard) to 120° (wide-angle) stereo for the ultimate versatility in any recording situation.

Use the tripod to dramatically reduce handling noise.

USB Cable

Use the USB cable to transfer audio files to your computer. Be sure to transfer all content to your computer before returning the Zoom H4n to the Music Library. The Libraries are not responsible for any content left on the provided memory card upon check-in.

Carrying Case

A carrying case is included to protect the Zoom H4n while being transported.

AC Adaptor

The Zoom H4n can run on two AA batteries for up to 11 hours if you need to record "in the field." Otherwise, it can be powered by the included AC adaptor. The Music Library will not be providing batteries upon checkout, so plan to purchase your own if you want to use the Zoom H4n in a situation where it cannot be plugged in.

Remote Controller & Extension Cord

The remote controller gives the user access to a range of functions including recording start, play, stop, fast forward/reverse, recording level adjustment, and input source switching. It is also useful for preventing any handling noise. 

3.5mm Stereo to 2 RCA Cable - 6ft

While the Zoom H4n has a built in speaker for immediate playback of recordings, if you wish, you can use this cable to plug it into an external speaker for better sounding playback. 

MicroSD Card - 2GB with Adaptor

As a courtesy, the Music Library provides a 2GB MicroSD card to store audio files. You are free to use your own if you have one! Make sure to transfer all recordings to your computer and erase the memory card prior to returning the device to the Music Library. The Libraries are not responsible for any content left on the provided memory card upon check-in.

Wind Screen

The wind screen reduces wind noise while recording outside.

Stereo Cable - 6ft

While the Zoom H4n has a built in speaker for immediate playback of recordings, if you wish, you can use this cable to plug it into an external speaker for better sounding playback.
