Teaching Certification Reciprocity

NASDTEC Interstate Agreement
Facilitating Mobility of Educational Personnel

Excerpts: "The interstate agreement, arranged by NASDTEC, is a collection of over 50 individual agreements by states and Canadian provinces. Each individual "agreement" is a statement by that state or jurisdiction outlining which other states' educator certificates will be accepted by that state. Specifically the agreement outlines which particular types of educator certificates (teachers, administrators, service personnel, or career/technical), and which particular styles of certifications (titles, fields, etc.) will be accepted."

"For example, a teacher who completed an approved teacher preparation program in Alabama generally will be able to earn a certificate in Georgia. Receiving states may impose certain special requirements which must be met in a reasonable period of time."

NASA Electronic Professional Development Network

The NASA Electronic Professional Development Network (ePDN) program, located at the Georgia Institute of Technology campus, brings together multiple partners to tackle developing effective electronic professional development courses for use in NASA programs and by STEM teachers across the nation. The three Georgia Tech partners are the Georgia Tech Professional Education (GTPE) department, the Center for Education Integrating Science, Mathematics and Computing (CEISMC), and ORBIT Education, Inc, a NASA-themed educational service provider.

These partners collaborate with scientists and engineers from NASA, from Georgia Tech, and from industry to bring STEM content to teachers through modular-based ePD courses, and through shorter self-paced courses and events. Our courses are designed to emphasize best practices, incorporating inquiry learning, case-based scenarios, and data analysis actively into the programs. They are also designed to promote teachers' use of new communication tools such as video sharing, podcasting, visualizations, social networking and other online platforms.
