On Tuesday, April 9, 2013, the final Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), a new set of voluntary, rigorous, and internationally benchmarked standards for K-12 science education, were released.
In March 2013, the National Science Foundation (NSF) convened a group of educators and education researchers at the STEM Smart Schools conference at the University of Maryland, Baltimore. Steve Robinson, Special Assistant for the White House Domestic Policy Council, concluded the conference by discussing the Federal Role in Smart STEM Schools. Robinson mentioned that one of the most powerful ways to improve the quality of STEM education is through empowering teachers to teach with passion.
